| The Orange County Correctional Facility is a new complex consisting of a maximum-security and a medium-security facility linked by a central administration core. Alternative building configurations were considered to identify optimal means of integrating the two facilities to share resources. The complex houses a total of 840 male and female inmates, with special provisions for the mentally ill, youthful offenders, and pre-trial inmates. A key element of the design was the ability to support educational and self-improvement programs, mental health services and a work-release component.
RicciGreene Associates, in a joint venture with Jacobs•Wyper, was responsible for site analysis through design and construction. The site, which included wetlands, was studied to determine available buildable area, environmental suitability, and accessibility.
