The new downtown Justice Center in Denver, Colorado is conceived as the extension of the civic core that includes the historic State Capitol, the City/County Building and the United States Mint. As a result of a worldwide search for signature designers, Hartman Cox/Ricci Greene Associates/VRJS/Oz Architecture was selected to design and construct the new 1,500-bed detention center.

To relieve overcrowded conditions, Gruzen Samton Ricci, a joint-venture, was asked to prepare a master plan to expand the existing 175-bed jail to accommodate 450 inmates.

The King County Cities Jail Administration Group (JAG), representing a 37-city consortium, selected Ricci Greene Associates to develop a Strategic Plan for addressing the management of the misdemeanant population. Presently, the cities rely on a combination of the municipal correctional system and county level facilities to hold their misdemeanants, but the counties will no longer hold city misdemeanant beginning in 2010, and the cities require a long-term solution for housing their respective inmates.

Served as “Program Manager” for the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government throughout the Planning, Design, Construction and Commissioning of the New Lexington-Fayette Detention Center.

As a result of a state-wide corrections master plan developed by Ricci Greene Associates, two bond issues for corrections construction have been passed by Maine voters.

Ricci Greene Associates served as “Program Manager” for the County of Merrimack Board of Commissioners throughout the Planning, Design, Construction and Commissioning of the New Merrimack County House of Correction.

Ricci Greene Associates was commissioned to study the expansion needs of the Midland County Jail and to design a new facility to address these needs. The design team, in association with the local firm of Otto-Dufty, developed five options for the jail expansion.

The master plan study for this minimum-security facility identified new housing as the critical step in easing severely overcrowded conditions. As the two new 58-bed housing units came on line, the original dormitory-style building was converted to visiting and program space.

The Morris County Jail housed up to 300 inmates, yet had a design capacity of 144 beds. Ricci Greene Associates, in association with George Kimmerlee Architects and Michael Savoia Architects, were selected by the county to prepare a site selection and analysis, facility program, and full architectural design for a 320-bed expansion to the jail, bringing the total capacity up to 650-700 inmates.

Modernization of the 500 bed New Haven Community Correctional Center extends the useful lifetime of this busy facility for a new generation. A series of emergency expansion projects had left the facility overcrowded, without adequate infrastructure to serve its population, and with a dilapidated, unprofessional image.

The Orange County Correctional Facility is a new complex consisting of a maximum-security and a medium-security facility linked by a central administration core.

Following our analysis of an emergency in the city and county of Philadelphia\'s prison system, Philadelphia requested our services to program and design its $50-million, two-phase prison complex. Accelerated scheduling techniques and extraordinary cooperation among the owner, joint-venture design team, and construction management team enabled our success in meeting fast-track target dates for both phases of work.

Ricci Greene Associates’ long-standing relationship with the Westchester County Department of Correction began with the development of a Comprehensive Long Range Facilities Master Plan (1990). The Master Plan established a phased construction approach for addressing critical deficiencies initially, and incorporating existing buildings through renovation and construction in subsequent years.
